Some Hotels are known to be cutting back services and amenities due to a down turn in the economy, which has had a negative impact on the industry. But is it right to compromise guests when cutting budgets? There are some services guests expect when booking into a standard Hotel:
- Guests find it very irritating when paying high room rates only to find that they are then asked an additional fee just to access the Internet. Hotels that charge WiFi and Internet access as additional extras make a lot more money than they are having to pay the provider for the service. In many cases Internet access in Hotels is very slow adding to the frustration of having to pay and then to receive poor returns on your money.
- Many of us love the little toiletry bottles on display when we walk into the bathroom of a Hotel. Guests see this as a small gift thanking them for their patronage and enjoy taking the cute bottles home with them. However, there are businesses switching to wall-mounted soap dispenser instead. To add to this annoying change, we seldom know the content of the dispenser as no brand or content ingredients are displayed.
- The third big annoyance is arriving in your room to discover that there is no iron, safe or hair dryer. For some guests a minibar and availability of tea and coffee making facilities are just as important so get highly annoyed when they discover that appliances are available from the front desk only and beverages have to be ordered at exorbitant prices from the bar. Instead of buying an iron for each room, small quantities are bought, which have to be phoned for and then you wait for one to be made available.
- Mattress toppers rather than replacing mattresses is another means of cost savings bringing discomfort to guests.
A few points to consider when next making a reservation for a business trip or leisure break. Perhaps a good time to switch to a serviced apartment versus a Hotel room. At Cotels all our serviced apartments in Northampton, Milton Keynes and Luton are inclusive of all appliances, WiFi Internet access and toiletries as well as an allocated parking bay.
